Winter through Spring - Band is year round!

While the fall season is by far the most intense, both the band and guard have a variety of activities throughout the year.

Concert Bands

Band students, depending on the specific band class they’re enrolled in will have the opportunity to perform at various concerts arranged by the directors. Some classes will travel for performances, such as festivals or competitions. (Approximately November through May)

Basketball Band

The Band performs stand tunes during home basketball games much like our home football games. The number of required performances and scheduling is handled by the Directors and communicated to the students. Tickets are required for parents wishing to attend. (Approximately February through March)

Winter Guard

The guard director will offer opportunities to try out for the Winter Guard team.  Winter Guard will travel to a variety of competitions and championships.  We also host our own Winter Guard competition as a program general fundraiser.  Winter Guard takes place indoors, and most travel will be to the Portland area. Parent volunteers will be needed for a variety of items throughout the Winter Guard season as we typically have larger teams.  (Approximately December through beginning of April)

Percussion Ensemble

The percussion students meet in their own designated class time. They get specific instruction for their vast array of instruments that make up percussion sections in all of the music ensembles. They also perform and compete in their own competitions in the winter season. From indoor percussion, Solo & Ensembles, and performances at concerts. (Approximately November through May)

Solo & Ensemble

Band students will have the opportunity to compete at the state level as a solo musician or with an ensemble. The band directors will work with students to ensure they understand requirements and to assist in choosing music, however, there are expectations that students are practicing at home. Some of the competitions for those participating are local to Southern Oregon, but a few competitions will require travel. (Approximately January through March)

Jazz Bands

We are very lucky to have a fantastic jazz program with a wide variety of opportunities for the students to perform. The Jazz bands will typically have 2-3 performances at community events, as well as perform at our own Jazz Fest alongside a guest artist.  (Jazz class runs all year long, performances occur approximately December through April)

Boatnik

In the spring, the fall marching band and color guard is brought back together to march in the Boatnik parade. The Guard Director typically holds tryouts during this timeframe for the following fall season as well. Students will be required to attend practices in the weeks leading up to the parade. The week before the parade, the directors host a Preview night, giving families the opportunity to hear and see what the students will perform during the parade. (Approximately end of April through May)

Special Trips

Every few years, as decided by the directors, the students will have the opportunity to go on a special trip. Trip years have included Macy's Day Parade, Disney Land, Japan, California and more. These trips will have an additional trip fee associated with them (fees will vary depending on the trip). It will be very important to watch for communications to ensure you’re getting all the updates.  Directors will share information as it becomes available. (Timeframes will vary)
